Chief Estimator
Position Overview
The Chief Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating department, overseeing the preparation and submission of competitive estimates for construction projects. This role requires a deep understanding of construction processes and methodologies, particularly in heavy civil and highway bridge projects, to ensure accurate and timely bids that reflect project requirements and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the estimating team in preparing comprehensive cost estimates for various construction projects.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to determine the scope of work and required resources.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing and bid information.
- Review and validate estimates prepared by team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Monitor and track project costs and performance to inform future estimating processes and improve accuracy.
- Participate in negotiations with clients to reach mutually beneficial agreements based on estimates provided.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior estimators to enhance their skills and knowledge in construction estimating.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven leadership experience in managing estimating teams and processes.
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, cost control, and project management principles.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills to evaluate complex project specifications and develop accurate estimates.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills to liaise with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
Benefits
$100,000 to $130,000 depending on experience
